Programming

Children's programming is offered for children ages 0 through 11. Story times are offered weekly and include age-appropriate stories, games, crafts, music, and occasional puppet shows. During the school year we offer two toddler storytimes for ages 18 months through 35 months, and two preschool story times for preschoolers ages 3 through 5.  We also have a special story time for children ages 6-23 months during the school year. Additionally, we offer programs for school age children, with the bulk of the programming for this age group in the summer.  Past programs have included magic shows, musical performances, crafts, and puppet shows.

For approximately 9 weeks during the summer we celebrate the joy of reading with our annual Summer Reading Program. Children entering grades 5 and under are rewarded for reading or listening to stories. Pre-readers are welcome to participate if someone reads to them.  To encourage use of the library, we also hold weekly programs for school age children.

Books & Media

Children's Services Department contains books for children through grade 5.

Board Books - Board books are intended for use by babies and toddlers. The format is small and sturdy, and perfect for this age group.

Picture Books (Easy Fiction) – We have a large selection of picture books. While many are suitable for young children, others are appropriate for grades 4-6.

Easy Readers – Books for beginning readers

Children’s Fiction – Chapter books for grades 2 through 6

Easy Nonfiction – Informational books ideal for grades K-2

Children’s Nonfiction - Informational books for grades 3-6

Outreach

Outreach to Daycares & Preschools

The children's services staff are committed to providing excellent quality story times to daycare and preschools located in Collierville.  We can visit your location up to two times each school year.  We strive to promote a love of books and reading through an age-appropriate story time which may include  picture books, interactive stories, fingerplays, and songs.  To schedule a story time, contact Jodi Hall, Head of Youth Services, at 901-457-2601.

Outreach to Elementary Schools

Let us come to your school! The children's services staff can come to local schools to promote books, reading and libraries. We'll be happy to come talk to teachers about new books, or do a presentation at your next faculty meeting or in-serservice day.  Each school may request up to two visits per year.  Schools must be located in the Town of Collierville.  Call Jodi Hall, Head of Youth Services, at 901-457-2601 to schedule a visit.

Tours

Bring your class or group and see what the library has to offer!  The children's services staff will schedule a tour for your group and customize it to your needs.  We can do a story time, teach you how to use the computer catalog, or give you a tour of the library.  Tours are scheduled by appointment only and are available on a first come, first served basis.  Call 901-457-2601 for more information or to schedule a visit.
